What can go wrong during the moulting period, at the diet of pigeons?
Too little methionine used to be one of the most common mistakes. This was mainly due to too much pea content in the pigeon food mixtures. A deficiency of the amino acid arginine, lysine or zinc led to poor discoloration of the fields, in Nice jargon we call it depigmentation of the feathers. Unfortunately, there are still moulting mixtures that are not sufficient for perfect moulting. Corn, peas and wheat predominate here. These mixtures are not suitable for moulting alone. The moulting process is very stressful for the pigeons. The radical new development of the feathers deprives the pigeons of valuable energy. Now we come to our first point: high-energy mixtures! So what is important? If we look at the composition of the feathers, we see that they consist of 90% protein (protein), 1.5% fat and the rest water. A sufficient supply of protein is absolutely necessary! Additionally, research has shown that Omega 3 also plays an important role in moulting. This is how a summary diet should be: Sufficient energy, protein and omega-3. Dari, for example, has a lower protein content than flaxseed.
That brings us to the next point: oleaginous seeds, we take flax seed. It has a high proportion of fat and a good Omega ratio 2:5. That is, has 2 amount of Omega 6 and Omega 3 has 5 shares, arginine plays also an important role in the Mauser. Hemp seed is increasingly an important raw material carrier, because this * is also a high proportion of fat and a high usable protein like no other component. A perfect blend of Mauser consists of many available single crops, such as wild seed, millet, Canary seed, sunflower seeds, hemp seeds, etc., which positively influence the course of the Mauser. Doves know their needs to take the correct components therefore instinctively.
