Johny Jonckers – He never gives up…
Johny Jonckers is certainly not an unknown name in pigeon racing, he can be described as a man “who never gives up”. Together with his wife Magda he made pigeon racing a professional hobby. Your pigeons are your life. We spoke to Johny and Magda and would like to give you a brief overview of the last 2019 racing season.
Johny, how was the 2019 racing season for you?
"The pigeon racing year 2019 was a year in which the weather conditions kept us breeders on our toes day after day. In Belgium, the competition calendar was therefore even changed a few times. Regardless of whether this was good or not, the pigeons and fanciers had to adjust accordingly several times. In addition, there was also a disastrous race with an irresponsible release, I am talking here in particular about the Interprovincial Montluçon on June 13th. The first pigeons reached a speed of over 1,450 m/m, but the race was not finished until 11 am the next day. Of course, it took some time to bring these birds back to performance. Once the pigeons lose their rhythm, it's hard for them to get back to their old morals."
Are you going to change anything in terms of 2020?
“Yes, we will switch completely to classic widowhood again. Our widowers made us great and achieved the best results. We also owe several victories in national races - twice 1st national Bourges - to the widower. "
Which pigeons were your best pigeons in 2019 and where do they come from?
“That would still be the line of our base pair: Littel Joe 810-04 (half-brother of Marieke, Olympic hen of the Engels brothers) paired with the“ 645 ”, a female from our own breeding, from the line of 1st place national Bourges (line by Artiest Houben). This pair is currently still detectable in around 80% of the colony. "
The two best fliers in 2019 were:
B-2115042-18, MATTHEO 042
1. Soissons against 1,155 pigeons
44th national Bourges against 10,393 pigeons
8th Chateauroux against 1,156 pigeons
121st national Châteauroux against 6377 pigeons
2nd Soissons against 2,023 pigeons
B-2115040-18, ARMANI 040
2. Soissons against 155 pigeons
2. Etampes against 241 pigeons
3rd Soissons against 2,023 pigeons
34.Bourges against 2,095 pigeons
6th tournament against 690 pigeons
What are the most important Röhnfried products for you and why?
“In the competition season, Avidress Plus is what we use every day. In this way, the pigeons do not get trichomonads and their digestive tract remains healthy. In addition, we use witch beer every day, which ensures that pigeon bodies are clean and stimulates the metabolism. They also moult the down well with it. In the breeding loft, we use a combination of Gervit-W and Avidress Plus. Together, these two products ensure that the young grow well for three to four breeding rounds in a row.
With the boys, I am very impressed by the effect of VitaloTop in combination with Avidress Plus. The young birds stayed healthy and had almost no problems with the young animal disease. "
Johny, what is the key to your success?
“We have always kept our eyes open for good pigeons. Year after year we have bought a new pigeon and have never had any problems with the price, but of course the birds must also be of real use. So we often dig deep into our wallets. Although this is the only way to get good pigeons, nothing comes easy. It's also a job that requires you 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. If you can do it as a couple, like we do, it's a bit easier because you motivate each other. My wife Magda is my motivation and she always gives 200 percent. Everything has to be clean, the birds have to be looked after carefully and as little as possible can be left to chance. I think those are the most important factors in our sport.”
Is there anything else you would like to tell the readers?
“Believe in your pigeons, work hard, look for a system that works well for you as a fancier. We, too, will return to what we know best: the classic widower method. Ensure that your pigeons are well trained and receive good feed and good by-products - this is now very important and essential. If you take a look at other types of sport, such as cycling or athletics, you immediately notice that athletes are also professionally supported in these areas. They have their own meal plan and often their own cook. Here in our pigeon loft, we ensure this by using Röhnfried products.”
