Brieftaubensport und Ruhrgebiet, zwei Begriffe die untrennbar miteinander verbunden sind. Gerade hier im „Pott“ hat der Brieftaubensport eine große Tradition und in früheren Jahren war es neben dem Fußballsport gerade der Taubensport, der hier von sehr vielen Menschen mit Leidenschaft betrieben wurde. Man traf sich in der Woche zum sog. „Tippen“ , am Samstag zum Einsatz- und am Sonntag zum Uhrengeschäft in den leider kaum noch anzutreffenden typischen Ruhrgebietskneipen. Es wurde gefachsimpelt, gewettet und „geklönt“ wie man hier so sagt und dabei natürlich auch so manches „kühle Blonde“ geleert . Man freute sich Sonntags gemeinsam über den „Dicken oder Vollen“ und nicht selten wurde das Preisgeld dann gleich beim Wirt gelassen. AS- Punkte etwa oder Meisterschaften waren zu der Zeit zweitrangig. Das was heute die „Sportbars“ oder „Sky-Lokale“ sind, waren damals halt diese Kneipen, nur das es da sehr viel persönlicher zuging und hier noch Menschen miteinander kommunizierten.

Natürlich hat sich das Bild auch hier im Ruhgebiet gewandelt, auch hier haben Computertechnik und andere Freizeitangebote Einzug gehalten. Die Bergwerke haben geschlossen, der Bergbau exisitiert nicht mehr und andere Berufszweige , Industrien etc. haben sich hier positioniert. Auch der Taubensport hat hier natürlich ob mangelnden Nachwuchses Einbußen erleben müssen, aber dennoch schlägt hier im Ruhrgebiet noch immer das Herz unseres Sportes. Fährt man durch dieses Gebiet, sei es nun über die A 40, A 42, die B 1 oder wie auch immer, so kommt man oft unbemerkt von einer Stadt in die andere ; Grenzen scheint es hier nicht zu geben. Das gesamte Ruhrgebiet gleicht einer einzigen großen Stadt. Hier sind die Regionalverbände 400, 402, 402 und 403 beheimatet. Ein Teil der RVen des Regionalverbandes 402, die an das Ruhrgebiet grenzen gehören ebenfalls dazu. Hier herrscht große Konkurrenz auf engem Raum. Fällt hier wo auch immer die erste Taube, so darf man auf die eigene nicht lange warten, will man noch vorne dabei sein.

Natürlich müssen hier absolute Ausnahmetauben an der Basis stehen. Karl Waschelitz war schon in jüngeren Jahren immer sehr umtriebig und auf der Suche nach dem Besten, was es in Belgien und Deutschland gab. Viele belgische Sportfreunde wurden private Freunde wie z.B. Gummarus Leysen oder auch heute noch Henk de Weerd. Mit dessen Vater, dem großen Piet de Weerd war Karl einst als junger Mann mehrere Wochen unterwegs um ihn bei seinen Besuchen und Klassifizierungen zu begleiten. Sicherlich hat er hier auch das eine oder andere lernen können. Die Freundschaft zu Piet hat sich bis in die heutige Zeit auf Henk und dessen Familie übertragen.

Generation als auch in der Enkel- und Urenkel-Generation. Insgesamt sind es mittlerweile 28 erste Konkurse, die seine Kinder oder Enkelkinder errungen wurden. Im Jahre 2017 hat er noch drei Jungtiere hervorgebracht, die natürlich alle in der Zucht sitzen. Im Frühjahr diesen Jahres ist er dann 17-jährig friedlich eingeschlafen. Bei einem Besuch von Karl und Bernd bei van Dyck hatten sie diesen Vogel einst mitgenommen, und Dirk standen Tränen in den Augen, denn dieser „355“ is the image of the famous "Kannibaal" so Dirk van Dyck.
