1914
Father Jerome Vereecke (° 1885) began in 1914 on the premises of the family-owned company with pigeons. This is due to a seasonal, Camiel Vereecke who worked against the will of the father, driven. He had nothing to do with doves in the sense. After the first world war, there were not many pigeons in the House and it took it up after the extended military service (after the war) as Jerome the thread again recorded. Jerome Vereecke, who wanted to be a follower, bought the three best pigeons in the year 1927 in the sale of Delombaerde brothers. Were not exactly cheap but brought Jerome Vereecke to where he wanted to be: the best player in the province. The brothers Delombaerde had pigeons of Theo Vandevelde and vice versa. Simply the best pigeons of their time.
1940
Roger Vereecke (born 1921) left the school at the beginning of the second world war. He intended to go to the University, but because of the impending war and the economic crisis, he had to work in the family business. The Vereeckes had a coal trading and selling also fertilizer on their premises by three hectares. There they encamped dried chicory. Roger Vereecke was 19 years, and his economic thinking was the company for good. It was more and more in the hobby the father Jerome included: the pigeon sport. He also found a solution, to bring the pigeons by the war. There were cultivated aviaries where some 60 pigeons survived the war.
1949
After the war, starting from the year 1949, Roger took over the family business from his father and the pigeons were now on his behalf. For 65 years was then under the name "Roger Vereecke, St. Louis – Deerlijk ” played. But new masters, new rules: Roger on short-haul flights almost unbeatable became. The new challenge was the middle distance. Other pigeons were bought – only the best thing was to buy, namely the pigeons from Emile Dupont from Herseaux. Two made history in Deerlijk this pigeons: the world-famous Schuwen and Atomique. The Schuwen was by 1945 and had flown 12 first prizes, including one from Orleans to 1120 pigeons, 1 from Dourdan against 2038 pigeons, 1 from Orleans 1007 pigeons, etc. The Commission was from 1946 and flew six first prizes. Together, they gave a whole generation of top pilots from Dourdan, Blois, tours, etc. The DuPont pigeons came originally from Commine, Leers-Nord. Only in a few years, Roger and Jerome were the best medium-range player in the country. But they were again looking for a new challenge. This time it was the long distance and the succession of Cattrysse, Descamps van hasten, etc.
And this time, drastic measures were taken: the Middle colony was publicly sold for a record amount (1961) by 1.045.120 old Belgian francs. Equivalent today is about 1000 EUR per Pigeon and this for 260 pigeons.
1962
Meanwhile, the Vereeckes for it were known that they wanted only the best pigeons. This was indeed so. They bought the 4 best birds of the country for their fund colony.

None of these birds was cheap, but they proved then that they were worth every franc. There were four birds, which have been mated with the old DuPont line.

The breakthrough on the long distance
The successes were not long in coming. The gekreutzen of the four world class deaf children showed an almost invincible team on flights from 700 to 1000 km. Already in 1970, almost all provincial and national championships have been won. In addition, there were national victories and memorable series of Pau, Perpignan and Barcelona.
So the Vereeckes won 1970 Barcelona (1050 km) national: 4, 20, 102, 232, 656, 862 and 6 by 6 and entente belge, were champions in the year 1970. This should be repeated later several times.
Two sons of the 90 Catrysse won the 20th and 24th national Brive and the 20th and 37th international San Sebastian for Roger Vereecke in 1970.
It was now clear that Vereecke was the largest to be and to remain for decades for this distance on the way.
Richard shadow and several
Roger Vereecke was never a Flanderer who has worked on the bone, to reach the Summit. He was rather an efficient Manager, the gentleman lovers, if you like.
Before the second world war, the Vereeckes had a full-time impact nurses here to call Emile Deweer. That was the only way to give the necessary care of the animals and to achieve many successes with the help of Emile until 1975.
1975 was appointed Richard shadow and several loft-Manager. He stayed until 1994. “Those were the best years” admits Roger Vereecke without hesitation. There are views of other dedicated maintainer, but Richard and shadow several was of course a deaf professional and has brought out the best of this already very good Dove population. The National Champion titles and top prizes now followed in rapid succession. In a very short time, the rising star of Roger Vereecke led him to worldwide fame. The Felix dynasty
Roger Vereecke itself was much less a buyer of pigeons as his father. However, he made an exception by the purchase of the national winner of tulle in 1980. It was a dove by Felix Smits, Melsele and Vereecke called the Dove “Felix”.

He had a good look, because Felix was the boy's father Felix, who wins for Vereecke 1st National Pau in 1985. This young Felix in turn became the father of little Felix, who wins the 1.National from tulle in 1990, exactly like his grandfather. It is rare that direct descendants may have three national WINS.
But otherwise there is little purchases. That was unnecessary: the colony Vereecke had a broad base, so that you could continue to grow top pigeons within the tribe. It took the art of Roger Vereecke and Richard shadow and several. Today, even these wonderful purchases from 1962 are the very basis of the pigeons.
The little Barcelona

We already said that Roger Vereecke no longer bought much, but that doesn't mean that he not tried by Exchange or joint breeding with the best players from long distances, to improve its quality.
